The 10 Most Badass Female Movie Characters Ever!

Sometimes, Hollywood gets it right and creates strong, powerful, badass female characters that both men women look up to. Here’s a list of the Top 10.

10. Éowyn

One of my personal favorites. Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings is like a Shakespearian heroine; a woman posing as a man to fight for her people, only to reveal herself as a woman in the most epic way imaginable (if you haven’t seen it…it’s 2017 what are you waiting for??).

9. Imperator Furiosa

Mad Max: Fury Road was quite an experience. Visually stunning, and the pacing with the music felt like an adrenaline rush. Charlize Theron’s portrayal as Imperator Furiosa steals the show. Taking a big-rig down the Fury Road to save the lives of five other women, Furiosa is an equal–if not superior–foil to the leaded man Max. Count me in.

8. Yu Shu Lien

Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (another visual masterpiece) tells the story of a woman who must deliver a precious sword from an aged warrior to his friend, but then must hunt the sword down when it is stolen. Everything in between is nothing short of remarkable as far as the special effects, stunt coordination and performance from Michelle Yeoh as Yu Shu Lien.

7. Jordan O’Neil (aka G.I. Jane)

This movie works because of Moore’s take as Lieutenant Jordan O’Neil, a lone woman chosen to go to Navy Seal training under the leadership of Master Chief (played by an excellent Viggo Mortensen). Wait for the “training montage” scene and you’ll be in awe.

6. Michelle Rodriguez

Just put any character she plays, it would still go on this list. Michelle Rodriguez is just simply badass starting with one of her earliest films, Girlfight. Since then she has gone on to play badass chick after badass chick and has made a name for herself as being tough, strong, and just as ruthless as the boys.

5. Lola Bunny

Okay, I had to add Lola on here. She’s the only one on the Toon Squad (besides MJ) that actually knows how to play ball. She’s the best!

4. The Bride

From Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2, Uma Thurman’s The Bride is one of the more iconic characters on this list. Her goal is simple, vengeance on those that betrayed her. The execution (pun intended) is tough. It takes The Bride two films to meet the ultimate boss, Bill, and we cheer her on every step of the way. This mamma lion means business!

3. Leia Organa

Princess Leia. The boys wanted to be with her, and the girls wanted to be her (hairstyle included). Leia defied the oft-used trope of a damsel in distress and fought along with the rebellion just as hard as Luke or Han Solo. In the most recent film The Force Awakens, Leia is a General! Princess Leia will be with us, always. RIP Carrie.

2. Sarah Connor

You think badass female character, you go to either Sarah Connor or the #1 on this list; no exceptions. Whether she’s trying to save herself and her child from The Terminator or joining forces with him, Sarah Connor will go down in film (and TV) history as one of the strongest, toughest and most badass ladies in history. The power a woman can yield to protect her child is unmatched.

1. Ellen Ripley

Fun fact, the role was originally written as a male, but director Ridley Scott decided to change it, and a film icon was born. Ellen Ripley faces some of the scariest movie aliens in movie history and remains badass and awesome throughout the franchise. She’s certainly a tough cookie that you don’t want to mess with!
